Stop Thinking
Start doing!
Hi friend, how are you and how have you been?? It’s 1:39am over here and I just took a shower and did my night-time facial routine. It’s a school night, which means I’m going to get less than 5 hours of sleep before waking up to prep the kids. I don’t like putting my glasses on immediately after my night routine because I observed that it breaks me out but I need my glasses so I can type to you. That’s how much I needed to be here. My guess is someone needs to hear this message from me! so whoever you are, I hope you “Stop thinking and start doing”
I know it may sound cliché, you might have heard this phrase a couple of times, but popular quotes are popular for a reason. The other day, at my book launch event (Oyinbo Karimu), an old friend asked me, if you write a memoir at 30, what then are you going to do at 60?. So I responded: “write another memoir about how I wrote a memoir at 30” I remember one of the evening walks I take with my husband, one of the elderly man we come across and have become cordial with over the course of the walks asked what we were currently up to. My husband went first, then I went next and ended with “I am writing a book”. So he goes, “what is it about?” then I go “about my life”. and he says something along the line of but you are so young, what could you possibly have to say?. I smiled, and diverted the question, I was not in the mood to defend my vision that day.
I’ve sold hundreds of copies, and every other week since the launch, I get messages from different people about how my book was what they needed at the time, how it has helped them overcome certain things, how they can relate to my story, how they needed to hear my story etc. Some people didn’t even bother saying much, I would just get random thank-yous from them.
See, friend, nobody needs to understand your vision, That’s why it’s yours. You don’t need validation, you don’t need approval, all you need to do is think less. Think less about the outcome, about the process, about if your’e worthy enough, about what people will say! begin to do and watch how you bloom.
I remember when I first started creating content, some people that were close to me laughed at me, as though I was an unserious person who didn’t know what to do with their life, I laughed back and said watch me! Now almost everyone wants to be a creator. There’s room for everyone though. A very big room to take us all.
Some people will die faster if you try to put them in box than if you inject them with a poisonous venous. They’re good at so many things and can’t be known for one thing. Multitalented people. The major problem is not knowing where to start. In my opinion, not knowing where to start is as a result of too much thinking. Start anywhere, if you don’t like the spot you started at, you’re allowed to move to a different base, nobody will beat you.
You don’t want to look back at a time where you have lesser energy and realise there was so much you could have done but didn’t do. I wanted to be an actress so I’ve acted and produced a short film (The Switch- It’s on YouTube). I love being a conversation host, so I’ve hosted and co-hosted shows for TV and YouTube. I’ve written a book! I’ve sold clothes and jewelries and turbans , I’ve sold and still sell food, I went to culinary school, I am a chef. I enjoy creating make up content, so I create them. Whatever I want to do, that is within my capacity to do, I do! I cannot and will not be put in a box. I advise you do the same. Start now, with what you have, with where you are.
Jack of all trades, master of none, is often better than master of one. But the last part has been cut out. I still want to learn how to sing. So if you see me singing in the future, don’t be shocked. Let people laugh, let people talk! block out the outside noise, think less, do more, stay consistent and watch what happens!
Friend, I'll leave you here for now. Until next time, Mory Poundsterling, Signing out. And I love you!

Thank you Mory! This was much needed! Love youuu!
